Journal of the liberal doctor of Guernica
Probably the reader has in his hands one of the most curious documents of the Third Carlist War in the Basque Country (1872-1876). For four years one of the few Liberals residing in Gernika, his pharmacist, will collect the experiences that as a Liberal he suffers and endures in said Villa throughout the war.
The story, intimate and stark, gives us a vision of the events that took place during this period on the different battlefields and in the locality itself. The story is not peaceful or calm, subject to the vicissitudes of the character.
For 11 consecutive newspapers, of which ten have been preserved, they will reflect the years 1873 to 1876.
The story, passionate, will lead to the final pages that reflect the triumph of the liberals, have been torn from the original, perhaps by the author.
We offer a transcription of them, and a copy of one of the originals.
