Graphic history of the Tercio de la Virgen Blanca
The Tercio de la Virgen Blanca, formed by the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Companies of the Requeté de Álava, brought together in its organization Requets from Alava and Biscay. Thus, his 4th Company was basically made up of requetés from Condado de Treviño, La Rioja Alavesa and the Vizcaína de Orduña area, who in good numbers were fleeing from the enemy area. His teammates from the 7th will be mostly from the Arratia Valley of Biscay.
The Tercio battled their weapons against the enemy in the Sierra de Elgueta with the positions of Arlabán and Isusquiza, in Villareal de Alava, where the 5th Company was heroic because its defense of the town of Villareal earned it the Collective Military Medal. He also fought in the Landa and Murgía sector where the different Companies were united in January 1937.
His officers Jose Maria Aldamiz-Echevarría, Luis Zabalburu, Manuel Lezama-Leguizamón, Fernando Sáenz de Santamaria and the requeté Jose Gonzalez Heredia "El Cojo de Ermua", all of them lovers of photography have left us their legacy that, with the complement of Other photographic collections have allowed Víctor Sierra-Sesumaga to reconstruct the life of this Tercio throughout the war, with a detailed knowledge of people and lives.
An exceptional document that reflects the life of some Biscayan people who gave everything for their ideal.
