Francisco Vicario was arrested on August 21, 1936, accused of high conspiracy against the Republic.
Transferred to Bilbao, his pilgrimage passes through the police stations and improvised prisons, first by the Defense Board and then by the provisional Basque Government, until the nationals are passed through Archanda on the eve of the entry of his troops.
From his native Carranza to Bilbao, first to the Obispo Orueta street police station, then to the Larrinaga prison, then to the “Cabo Quilates” prison ship, then to the “Altuna Mendi”, and from there disembarked and taken to the Carmelo convent , converted into a prison in Begoña. Finally, he was transferred back to the Larrinaga prison until he escaped with all his companions and his guards.
