A brief history of Bizkaia and its institutions: Ascensión Pastor and Beatriz Salaverri

Vizcaya or Bizkaia. Both have been used to name this small territory that formed a jurisdictional manor in the Middle Ages throughout history, which would later include more territories that were not initially part of the manor. This double designation, Basque and Spanish, is a clear indicator of the duality of Vizcaya-Bizkaia. On the one hand, the Basque, with its own distinctive features, and on the other, the Castilian, who was part of the Crown of Castile along with other medieval territories and kingdoms, with which it would later form the Spanish Crown. Let us not forget that XIV. In the 16th century, the Lordship of Bizkaia was annexed to the King of Castile for reasons of inheritance.

This book aims to bring the reality of Vizcaya-Bizkaia closer to the non-specialist reader, proclaiming the identity of this kingdom through its history and showing its collaboration with other Basque and Spanish territories from its creation in the late Middle Ages to the present day.
